Abstract

932,194. Valves. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. May 29, 1961 [May 27, 1960], No. 19294/61. Class 135. A vacuum control valve comprises a closure flap 1 co-operating with a seat 12, swivel pins 2 engaging with eye bearings 3 secured to control rods 4, an operating member 19 controlling the axial displacement of the rods via nuts 17 screwed thereon, and fixed stops 13 provided with abutments 14, 15, 16 arranged to cooperate with bearing means 9, 10, 11 in order, by displacement of the rods, to control the swinging of the flap from its closed to its open position. The control rods are moved axially by the nuts 17 which are rotated by pinions 18 meshing with a gear-wheel 19, the latter being rotated by handles 20. The swivel pins 2 are secured to members 9 on which are provided journal pins 10 carrying ball bearings 11. In operation, rotation of the gear 19 causes the rods to be raised thereby lifting the closure flap off its seat 12, which is of metal such as indium. Continued movement of the rods brings the bearings 11 into engagement with the abutments 14 thereby rotating the flap perpendicular to its seat, the flap coming to rest when the member 9 finally contacts the abutment 15. On closing the valve, the ends of the journals 10 engage with the abutment 16 and thereby brings the flap parallel with its seat.
