Abstract

932,119. Wells. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. Nov. 27, 1961 [Nov. 28, 1960], No. 42370/61. Class 85. In a sub-aqueous well head housing supporting a casing string and a tubing string within the casing string, and comprising a lower section and a closure section, a first passage extends through the sections and provides communication between the tubing string and the space above the closure section, and a second passage provides communication between the annular space between the strings and the space above the closure section. The lower section comprising parts 12, 13 secured together by locking screws 31 is secured to the closure section 14 by locking screws 33. The casing string 21 is connected to a hanger 17 secured to the part 12 by control screws 80, and the tubing string 43 is connected to a hangar 38 secured to the part 13 by control screws 75, the screws 75, 80 sliding within slots 83, 84 as the part 13 and section 14 are lowered into place. A cover 57 carries a nipple 47 which is a fluid-tight fit within the hangar 38 to connect the interior of the tubing string to a pipe 60. A nipple 46 connected to the closure section is also a fluid-tight fit within the hangar 38, the annulus 69 between the nipples being connected by a duct 55 to the annular space between the strings and by a cavity 56 to a pipe 61. During drilling of the closure section, cover, closure section, and nipples are replaced by a drilling bonnet and blow-out preventer. Specification 920,309 is referred to.
