Abstract

480,817. Casing-heads for wells &c. MATHESON, N. Dec. 16, 1936, No. 34563. [Class 85] In a casing - head for an oil well or borehole, the joint between the casing supporting member and its support permits automatic vertical alignment of the casing under the action of gravity. A double-conical collar 21 is threaded to an inner casing 20 which is then lowered until the collar seats in an annular member 16 with a spherical outer surface engaging a corresponding surface in a casing-head member 12; packings 17, 19 of lead, rubber, fabric, &c. are held in grooves in the parts. When the casing 20 is correctly positioned, a casing-head member 22 is bolted in position. Further inner casings 30, 40 &c. may be similarly mounted. Packings 18, 28 &c. provide gas-tight joints with a blow-out preventer which is bolted to the casing-head members during drilling or lowering of the casings.
