Abstract

1412344 Boring earth &c CAN-TEX DRILLING & EXPLORATION Ltd and H S CHAPMAN 1 Feb 1973 5113/73 Heading E1F A sub for a drill string having concentric passages for drilling fluid has fluid inlet and outlet passages 55, 31 at its upper end, a fluid outlet passage 65 at its lower end, and entrances 39 leading fluid from the annulus about the sub to the outlet passage 31. The annular inlet passage 55 is joined to the outlet passage 65 by ducts 33, and the entrances 39 are shaped to give an upward spiral flow to the fluid in the passage 31. The sub is installed in a rotary string immediately above a down-the-hole percussive drill motor, or if the motor is not fitted, directly above the bit. Specification 1337587 is referred to.
