Abstract
931,568. Coloured-pattern reproducer. WALL PAPER MANUFACTURERS Ltd. March 26, 1962 [Feb. 23, 1961], No. 6679/61. Class 40 (3). The invention is concerned with reproducing photographically a single colour from a multicoloured pattern (e.g. wall paper, textiles or coloured cartoons) and is characterized in that the reproducing head is controlled by electrical signals proportional to colour (defined as to both hue and saturation) and the brightness of the original colour. As shown, the rotatable drums 1, 2 around which are wrapped the original picture and the photo-sensitive paper respectively are movable axially so that corresponding points on the periphery of each drum follow a common helical path. Light from the lamp 3 is reflected into the four-way beam splitter 4. Three of these beams are passed through red, green and blue filters respectively to fall on photo-cells 6, 7 and 8. The output from each cell is D.C. amplified and applied to the magnetic deflection coils (arranged mutually at 120 degrees) of the C.R.T. 12. The gain of the amplifiers 9, 10, 11 is manually preset (using a neutral step wedge) to align an " image " of the correct due with the aperture in the mask 17 to energize the photo-cell 14. The fourth beam from the beam splitter 4 activates photocell 5, the output from which is applied to amplifier 13 which produces an output only when the input signal lies between pre-set limits (that is the original picture is of a preselected brightness). The amplifier 15 is triggered by coincident signals from photo-cell 14 and amplifier 13 to activate the crater lamp 16. In alternative arrangements (not shown), the cell 5 is responsive to the integrated output of the cells 6, 7 and 8. The C.R.T. 12, the mask 17 and the photo-cell 14 may be replaced by a corresponding electrical network.
