Abstract

PURPOSE:To distinguish colors and black and white in an input image by computing and processing the outputs from two kinds of light sensing parts having different spectroscopic sensitivity characteristics. CONSTITUTION:A manuscript 1 on a drum 1 is illuminated by light sources 2 and 2', and the light from a picture element point 10 is inputted to a light sensors 4 and 4' having color filters 6 and 6', via a lens 3 and a half mirror 7. The outputs become a luminance signal through amplifiers 40 and 40' and an adder 70, and said signal is inputted to a comparator 30. If the signal exceeds a specified value, it is determined as s white signal. If it is less than the specified value, it is determined as a black signal, and an output 44 is given to a black ink jet. In the meantime, the signals from the sensors 4 and 4' are outputted to a subtractor 71 through logarithmic amplifiers 31 and 31', the difference is obtained, and the hue signal 43 is inputted to a color discriminating circuit 32. The input signals are compared with a preset value, and the color signals of blue, green, and red 46-48 are outputted to ink jets with corresponding colors. Thus, the colors and black and white of the input image are distinguished.
