Abstract

931,451. Cable clamps. CHARLTON WEDDLE & CO. Ltd. Aug. 14, 1959 [Aug. 15, 1958; July 23, 1959], Nos. 26360/58 and 25391/59. Class 36. [Also in Groups XIV, XXII and XXV] Pipes or cables are secured to a transverse bearer bar 11 by a clip consisting of a saddle member 12, formed with an arched portion to extend over the pipe &c. and lugs 16 lying along the bar, and separate U-shape clamping members 14 applied with the base 19 lying on a lug and wings 21 depending one at each side of the bar for bending beneath the bar, the use of securing bolts, requiring bolt holes in the bars, being avoided. The arched portion has a strengthening flange 15 and upturned ends 17, to locate the clamping members, and a seating member 13, having upturned ends 18, is provided. The saddle member may have several arched portions and in a modification shown in Fig. 4 a single element forms the arch 23 and the seating member 24 and is secured by a single clamping member. In a further modification secured by a single clamping member the ends of the arch are formed as a lug and a bead respectively one end of the separate seating plate having a hook to embrace the bead. The clip may be of mild steel, aluminium, brass or copper and is used in securing pipes or cables carrying a heating medium in storage tanks in ships or in oil or sugar refineries, an insulating sheet being provided between the clip and the bearer bar if necessary. A hand tool to clench clamping members of thin material and a power tool for heavier materials are described.
