Abstract

Gasoline, kerosine, gas oil, transformer oil, or hydrocarbon lubricating oil contains an additive having the formula <FORM:0931436/III/1> wherein R represents a heterocyclic radical containing a -C=N-group in a five or six membered ring, and Y represents hydrogen or a cyclic or acyclic radical, or the two Y's together with the =C-NH-C= group form a cyclic structure. R may be a thiazole, pyridine, quinoline or isopyrrole ring, any of which may be substituted, while Y may be alkyl, phenyl, -CR1=CR1- in which R1 is phenyl, or the two Y's may be adjacent carbon atoms of a benzene, napthalene, or 1,4-dithia-2, 3-dehydrocyclohexane structure. Specified compounds are 1,3-di(21-pyridylimino)-isoindoline; 2,5-di-(21-pyridylimino)-3,4-diphenylpyrroline; 1,3-di(21-thiazolylimino)-isoindoline; and 1,3-di(21-pyridylimino)-4,7-dithia-4,5,6, 7-tetrahydro-isoindoline. In examples, disalicylalethylene diamine is sometimes also added, and the effectiveness of the additives tested in the presence of copper napthenate.ALSO:2,5- Di(21- pyridylimino)3,4- diphenylpyrroline is prepared by reacting 1,2-diphenyl-1,2-dicyano-ethene with 2-aminopyridine. 1,3-Di(21-thiazolylimino)-isoindoline is prepared by reacting 1,3-diimino isoindoline with 2-amino-thiazole. 1,3-Di- (21-pyridylimino)4,7- dithia-4,5,6, 7-tetrahydroisoindoline is prepared by reacting 1,3-diimino- 4,7-dithia- 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-isoindoline with 2-aminopyridine.
