931,277. Television. SYLVANIA-THORN COLOUR TELEVISION LABORATORIES Ltd. April 6, 1960 [April 6, 1959], No. 11604/59. Class 40 (3). A television picture is reproduced in a dotinterlaced pattern comprised of elementary areas 12 and 13 produced during the scanning of odd and even fields 10 and 11 respectively. The patterns may be produced by pulse control of the intensity of the scanning beam of the picture tube. Alternatively, the pattern is produced by deflecting the scanning beam in a direction transverse to that of line scanning (spot-wobble), one or more harmonies of the wobble frequency being added to the fundamental (sinusoidal) to increase the time spent by the spot in the neighbourhood of the areas 12, 13 or, the scanning velocity of the beam may be varied by the addition of a sawtooth waveform or of a sinusoidal waveform with harmonics as indicated above. With any of these arrangements the necessary 180 degrees phase shift of the wobble, scanning velocity control or brightness pulsing waveforms during alternate field scans may be automatically produced by making the (fundamental) frequencies of such waveforms equal to an odd multiple of half the field scanning frequency. The pattern may be produced by an electroluminescent panel the elementary areas of which correspond to the areas 12 and 13. Specifications 850,024 and 864,233 are referred to.
