931,279. Television. SYLVANIA-THORN COLOUR TELEVISION LABORATORIES Ltd. April 6, 1960 [April 6, 1959], No. 36784/62. Divided out of 931,277. Addition to 850,024. Class 40 (3). A dot-interlaced television picture is produced in the form of fields of elementary areas the areas of each field lying at the points of a lattice having diamond-shaped cells with the areas of one field lying at the centres of the cells of the preceding field and the directions of the diagonals of the cells extending vertically and horizontally when the picture is upright in a vertical plane. To produce such a picture the beam of the display device is scanned line sequentially and the motion of the beam along the line of scan is periodically modulated to generate the elementary areas the phase of the modulation varying 180 degrees from line to line in any one field and from a line in one field to the corresponding line in the succeeding field. The modulating waveform may be a sawtooth or a sinusoidal wave to which one or more harmonics are added and the necessary phase relationship may be obtained automatically by relating the modulation frequency to the line and field frequencies.
