931,156. Brakes for hand-propelled vehicles. A. WALDNER, [trading as HERMANN WALDNER KOMM.-GES.]. Sept. 1, 1959 [June 19, 1959], No. 29736/59. Class 103 (1). [Also in Group XXX] An apparatus for simultaneously actuating a jacking device 1 mounted at the front of a hand truck and a rear wheel locking device 2 comprises a spring-loaded supporting plate 16 actuable by a bell-crank lever 18 through a connecting lever 20 into one of two positions so that the supporting plate 16 is either in a jacking position (illustrated in full lines in Fig. 1) or in a retracted position 17 (shown in dotted lines), the bell crank lever being actuable by means of a strap 10 pivotally mounted on a towing bar 9 of the hand truck, the spring-loaded supporting plate 16 having a guide tube 22 arranged to move up and down in a tubular housing 23 which also carries the front axle and wheels 4 and 5 of the truck, and the plate 16 being connected to the rear wheel locking device by a cable 8. The locking device 2 for the rear wheel 6, 7 of the truck is constituted by a pair of positive detents 43 which engage apertures 46 in the rear wheels when supporting plate 16 is lowered to its ground engaging position and the cable 8 attached at one end to supporting plate 16 is tensioned to pivot wheel locking lever 41 about its pivot 42 to actuate detents 43. When the towing bar 9 is moved downwards in the direction of the arrow 14, the strap 10 engages a bolt 15 on the bell-crank lever 18 so that when the towing bar is lifted the bell-crank lever 18 is moved upwards in direction of arrow 19, the spring-loaded supporting plate 16 being retracted and the positive detents 43 released from the apertures 46 in the rear wheels of the truck.
