Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0930933/IV(a)/1> wherein at least two of the R radicals are alkyl and the remainder are alkyl or H, n and m are 1-50 and A is a C3 or C4 alkylene chain. Such compounds are prepared by reacting the appropriate phenol in presence of an alkaline catalyst and at an elevated temperature first with ethylene oxide and then with the C3 or C4 alkylene oxide. In the examples the phenol is octylcresol, the alkylene oxide is propylene oxide and n and m are respectively (1) 10.9 and 2.8 (average values) and (2) 10 and 3.ALSO:The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0930933/IV(a)/1> wherein at least two of the R radicals are alkyl and the remainder are alkyl or H, n and m are 1-50 and A is a C3 or C4 alkylene chain.
