A tray with hollow walls on all four sides is folded up from a blank, the sheet material forming each wall having at least two parallel folds to provide at least three panels, the third or fourth panel 7, 20 lying in contact with the base 5 of the tray and the panels being provided at the inside corners of the walls with interlocking means to keep the tray assembled. The inside walls 19, 14 are recessed at the ends as shown to interlock. To make the tray, the blank is first folded to form a tubular box with bottom 5, top 6 and open end flaps 9, 10. A strip 22 bent down from the top is glued to the side 8. The top 6 is then slit centrally along the length at 11 and transversely near the ends at 12 and the flaps 7 so formed creased at 15, 16 and bent inwardly and downwardly with the edge portions of the panels lying upon the base 5. End flaps 10, 23 are folded inwardly and flap 9 creased at 17, 18, 19 and bent inwardly to form the hollow end walls. The hollow walls may be of square or triangular section and may be subdivided by longitudinal partitions. Opposite walls may be slit vertically to take a partition which divides the tray into two compartments and hinged lids may be integral with the partition. The top of the tray may slope downwardly and one such tray may be inverted over another to form a lidded box of uniform depth. When used for ice cream the boxes may be stacked, the hollow walls serving as insulation.
