930,583. Feeding webs. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Feb. 23, 1961 [Feb. 24, 1960], No. 6634/61. Class 100 (1). [Also in Group XXXVIII] The diameter of a roll of material is measured continuously by means of a member sensing the length of material unrolled or the rotation of the roll and transmitting impulses to one or more pulse counters which indicate the diameter. As shown, material from a roll 16 on stand 11 passes through rollers 19 or other suitable members which transmit a pulse to counter 25 by means of an impulse disc 21 with a contact 22 engaging contacts 23, 24 every time a predetermined length has been unrolled. A multi-position switch 52 is provided to adjust the number of steps in counter 25 for different thicknesses of material. Pulses are supplied from counter 25 to counter 26 after the completion of each cycle. When a new roll 18 replaces roll 16 stand 11 is rotated, the angle of rotation being dependent on the initial diameter of the roll 18. Rotation of stand 11 is transmitted through shaft 31 and cam disc 34 with projections 35 spaced at decreasing intervals to supply impulses to counter 26 dependent on the initial diameter of roll 18.
