Abstract
930,280. Rotary-piston internal-combustion engines. O. KORF. Oct. 31, 1961 [Nov. 2, 1960], No. 38848/61. Class 110(2). A rotary-piston I.C. engine comprises a water-cooled housing 1, Fig. 9, having a cylindrical bore 5, Fig. 4, and closed by endplates and a concentrically rotatable rotor 3 of undulating profile which co-operates with an even number of crescent-shaped elements 2 housed and oscillatable in recesses extending between the end-plates. The crests of the undulations lie within an enveloping circle spaced from the bore 5. Variable volume chambers e, f, g, h between the elements each include a sparking plug 13, an induction port 11 (not shown), for the intake of a gaseous mixture and an exhaust port 12. Variable volume chambers a, b, c, d between the contact and sealing edges 10 of each element 2 may also or alternatively be fitted with a sparking plug, induction and exhaust ports. When not so fitted the chambers may function as compressors into which air is sucked, compressed and delivered therefrom for any desired purpose. The ports 11, 12 may be obturated by valves operating through linkage and cams from the rotor shaft 4 or alternately by the end faces of the rotor. The sparking plugs may be omitted and all the chambers function as compressors.
