930,071. Disc brakes. E. B. C. DU MOULIN. July 10, 1959, No. 23797/59. Class 103 (1). In a disc brake assembly brake pads 22 are carried on arms 18, 24 pivoted respectively on a mounting bracket 16 secured to wheel axle 13 at 19 whilst the second arm 24 is pivoted on a location between the ends of the first arm 18 (in the case illustrated in Fig. 1 this coincides with the pivot 19); the arms 18, 24 being connected to operating means to move the arms apart and apply the brake pads 22 to the brake disc 8. Fig. 1 shows the brake disc 8 formed as an inturned flange of an arcuate-shaped member 11 secured to the wheel hub 15 and mounted for rotation about the wheel axle 13 of a vehicle having a dual-wheel rim assembly. Holes 11A are provided in the member 11 and the disc portion 8 is of hollow construction having a series of radial slots 43 arranged between its braking faces (as seen in Fig. 8A) to provide for air circulation to cool the brake members. The brake operating means may be in the form of an hydraulic or pneumatic actuating cylinder 26 shown above the centre line in Fig. 1 or may be in the form of a mechanically applied lever mechanism comprising a pull rod 27 and lever mechanism 28, 29, as shown below the centre line in Fig. 1. Alternative arrangements are disclosed in the Specification including a provision for axial movement of the mounting bracket on the axle 13, provision for pivoting the friction pads and alternative mechanical and hydraulic applying arrangements.
