Abstract

929,894. Stud - and - socket fastenings. FLIGHT REFUELLING Ltd. Dec. 12, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960], No. 42975/60. Class 44. [Also in Groups XXVIII and XXXIII] A dual purpose refuelling and load-lifting apparatus for aircraft (see Group XXXIII) has a sinker 54 attached to a receptor 12, 14 by balls 34 in receptor part 14 which are forced into groove 58 in sinker 54 by rotating a cam-ring 36 by means of a lever 40 biased by spring 128 in one of two slots in receptor 12, 14 corresponding to the released and locked positions of the balls 34. The sinker 54 has four integral pockets 76 housing spring-biased balls 78; a liquid transmitting nozzle 84 has four grooves 88 which are firstly aligned with balls 78, the nozzle is then inserted and rotated to bring the balls out of alignment with grooves 88, the balls then being in an annular groove 86; a pin 90, released by lever 94, enters one of four recesses 92 to locate the nozzle. The nozzle can be forcibly withdrawn in an emergency by the balls being forced into the pockets against the springs. With nozzle 84 removed, a load support 104, 106 can be attached to the sinker, Fig. 3. Four segmental flanges 108 are passed between corresponding flanges 110 on sinker 54, the support is then rotated to align flanges 108, 110, the support is then lowered with pins 112 on flanges 110 engaging slots in flanges 108; a spring- biased, manually released pin 112 enters one of the recesses 92 to finally locate the support. In the Provisional Specification studs on the sinker 54 pass through keyhole slots in the support 104 which is then rotated to lock it to sinker 54. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 862,893.
