Abstract

In a process for producing bleached pulp in a pulp refining procedure, wood chips are passed in a fluid through a succession of refiners for staged reduction of the chips to a desired pulp consistency and bleaching agents, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, are added to the wood chips at selected refiners to effect simultaneous refining and bleaching of the wood chips. The wood chips in water may be passed through a series of four refiners of the disc mill type, a sequestering agent, e.g. sodium tripolyphosphate, being added to the chips in the first refiner, hydrogen peroxide solution containing magnesium sulphate being added to the third refiner and sodium silicate and sodium hydroxide solution which softens the wood chips, being added to the fourth refiner. Alternatively the wood chips may be passed through two refiners and a washer, the hydrogen peroxide being added to the first refiner and sodium hydroxide being added to the first or second refiner.ALSO:In a process for producing bleached pulp in a pulp refining procedure, wood chips are passed in a fluid through a succession of refiners for staged reduction of the chips to a desired pulp consistency and bleaching agents, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, are added to the wood chips at selected refiners to effect simultaneous refining and bleaching of the wood chips.
