Abstract

Cellulose pulp is made from the stalks of oil palm after the oil-extraction process. The pulping treatment may be by the sulphate process, the sulphate process proceded by a treatment with boiling water, the sulphite process, treatment with sulphite solution containing also sodium carbonate, the hot or cold soda process or by treatment with hot or cold water. The product may be bleached with chlorine, hypochlorite or peroxides or by successive treatment with chlorine, soda and first and second hypochlorite treatments. It may also be defibred in disc grinders. The resulting pulp may be made into paper or board and may be mixed for this purpose with long-fibre cellulose pulp.
