The electric torch of the parent Specification is modified in that the switch element, the con ductor strip and the switch pocket are so con structed that the switch element can be moved to a neutral position which lies beyond, i.e. not between, the two contact making positions. In the neutral position shown in the Figure, the contact 38 on the switch slider 30 is movable successively to make contact with the portion 42a of the strip 42 for completing the bulb circuit and with the strip 36 to bring the heater element 32 into operation. The slider 30 carries a shield 46 with an aperture 50 which registers with an aperture in the casing when the element 32 is in operation.
