A brittle Raney silver alloy containing in percentage by weight: .Al.15-60 .Ag.40-85 is obtained by rapidly chilling the alloy from the molten state, preferably about 750 DEG C., to a temperature below 100 DEG C., as by dipping the crucible into water or by pouring the melt directly into water.
