A gold plating solution contains a soluble gold cyanide, preferably 12 Au CN 4 and a phosphite, phosphate, or polyphosphate ion, used at a pH 3 to 6. Preferably hydrazine or a derivative or a salt thereof is present to suppress free cyanide formation.
