Abstract

1294309 Electro-deposition of bright gold PMD CHEMICALS Ltd 13 Jan 1970 [15 Jan 1969] 2492/69 Heading C7B An aqueous electrolyte solution contains a soluble gold compound, an acid and an amine having the formula NH 2 (CH 2 CH 2 NH) n CH 2 CH 2 NH 2 when n is not less than 2, and has a pH of from 3À5 to 7À5; the acid and the amine having been at least partially prereacted before dilution with water. The amine used may be tetraethylene pentamine, and the acid may be phosphoric acid, sulphuric acid, citric acid or the disodium salt of EDTA. To increase the conductivity a salt such as potassium citrate or potassium phosphate may be present. As counter-electrode platinum, platinized titanium or tantalum, carbon or stainless steel may be used. The bath or the cathode may be agitated, and the bath may be continuously treated by passage through activated carbon.
