Abstract

927,567. Spring rollers. HUNTER DOUGLAS INTERNATIONAL (QUEBEC) Ltd. April 5, 1961 [April 6, 1960], No. 12261/61. Class 20 (3). A spring roller, particularly for an insect screen, comprises outer and inner tubes 12, 13 with a helical spring 14 disposed therebetween having one end 14B off-set to the axis and engaged in slots 16 in the inner tube 13 and the other end 14D engaged in a slot 21 in a bearing member 17 secured within the tube 12 by ribs 18 fitting in slots 19 on the outer tube 12, and rotatable on a stub 22 projecting from a cap 23, a thrust-washer 29 lying between member 17 and the end of tube 13 and having diametrically opposite inwardly-extending ribs 30 engaging complementary grooves in stub 22 and slots 32 in tube 13. The other end 12A of tube 12 is rotatably carried on a stub 24 projecting from an end-plate 25 and having a fluted bearing surface, this end of the inner tube being spaced from the outer tube by a spacer 27 having a neck 28 to support the inner tube. The spring 14 is held in tension by a removable pin 36 engaging in registered holes 37, 38 in end-plate 23 and member 17. The ribs 30 may be replaced by a E-section locking plate with diametrically-aligned ends engaging in slots in the inner tube 13 and stub 22.
