Abstract
926,990. Semi-portable engines. STEWARTWARNER CORPORATION. Dec. 1, 1959, No. 40855/59. Class 79(1) A device for spinning the wheel of a jacked-up vehicle comprises a frame 2 carrying a shaft 22 upon which is rotatably mounted by journals 23 a plate 11 to which is attached an electric motor 12 driving a pulley 16. A brake plate 31 is attached to a member 32 rotatably mounted upon the shaft 22. A cam member 35 is secured by a set screw 37 to the shaft 22 and bears against the plate 31 and against the plate 11 at 36. A spring 34 urges the plates 11 and 31 into contact with the cam 35. A handle 24 and pedal 25 are attached at 26 to the shaft 22. The device may be transported upon rollers 4 using a handle 1 and stands in the operative position upon legs 5 and 6, Fig. 2. By depressing the handle or pedal the pulley 16 is brought into contact with the vehicle wheel and at the same time the motor 12 which is energized from an external source of supply, is started by a microswitch 45 operated upon rotation of the shaft 22 through a lever 50 which is moved by a spigot 52 attached to the shaft and sliding in a slot in the lever 50. The switch is normally maintained in the " off " position by a pair of springs 48 acting on the lever 50. When the handle 24 or pedal 25 is raised, the spigot 52 is ineffective in its groove in the lever 50 and the brake plate 31 is urged against the wheel.
