926,742. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. FORGROVE MACHINERY CO. Ltd. Feb. 9, 1961 [Feb. 11, 1960], No. 4892/60. Class 42 (1). [Also in Group XVII] Apparatus for heat-sealing polyethylene &c. wrappers about articles, e.g. loaves, comprises mechanism for advancing the packages in succession to the sealing station, groups of heated needles situated at the sealing station opposite the overlapping folds in the wrapper, and means for moving the needles inwardly to pierce the folds and thereafter retracting them. As shown, a wrapped loaf a is conveyed along a plate m and between guides d to the sealing station. The bottom folds are sealed by heated needles n being raised through slots in the plate m by means of a cam t to produce perforations v having a fused annulus of material which seals together the layers w of the fold. The side folds are similarly sealed by needles b, mounted on plates c and attached to heater bars e, which are reciprocated through slots in the guides d by means of levers h and cams k.
