Abstract

926,498. Generators operating by the interaction of fluid with a magnetic field. BROWN, BOVERI & CO. Ltd. Dec. 11, 1961 [Dec. 13, 1960], No. 44200/61. Class 35. Material 2, added to the working fluid 1 to enhance its electrical conductivity within duct 3 of a magnetohydrodynam generator is recovered after use by means of cooler 4 and gas-washing apparatus 5. Heat extracted from the gas by cooler 4 may be used either in a steam turbine plant or to preheat the air or fuel supply for the generator. The working fluid, which may be a rare gas to prevent corrosion at high temperatures, is seeded with an element taken from Groups I-III of the Periodic Table, preferably potassium or caesium.
