[Also in Group XXXII] Relates to a foldable handrail assembly for a walkway on a tank wagon (see Group XXXII). The assembly comprises a rail L pivotably connected to the upper ends of supports J, Ji, J 2 , J 3 , Fig. 1, whose lower ends are pivotally connected on horizontal axes K transverse to the walkway E. F, G, through brackets K 2 . A guard rail L 1 is connected to the upper ends of the supports J 3 and J 4 , the lower end of J 4 being pivoted to a bracket Ks on the walkway. The support J, Fig. 2, adjacent a ladder C is rigid with a rotary plate O which carries a spring-pressed pin Q, an adjustable stop R screwthreaded with a socket R 1 on the plate and a locking member N 2 pivoted to the plate at N 1 and rigid with a control lever N. The support J and plate O are rotatable relative to a plate P 1 rigid with a pin P 2 in turn rigid with the bracket K 3 . The plate P 1 has a pair of flats P and P 3 . By depressing the lever N the member N 2 is disengaged from the flat P and thus the support may be swung to the folded position. When it is desired to erect the assembly the support J is rotated clockwise as seen in Fig. 2, until the member N 2 snaps into engagement with the flat P and the stop R engages the flat P 3 . According to the Provisional Specification the plate O may be fixed to the bracket and the plate P 1 rotatable with the support J.
