Abstract
The invention comprises azo dyes of formula <FORM:0926039/IV(a)/1> wherein A is a mono- or poly-cyclic radical of the benzene series, E is a 1:4-phenylene or -naphthylene radical, n is an integer and R is a sulphonated phenyl or naphthyl radical. Preferred dyes are those of formula <FORM:0926039/IV(a)/2> wherein n and R are as defined above, X is a chlorine atom or a nitro or acylamino group and the ring B may be substituted by chlorine atoms or by methyl, methoxy or acetylamino groups. The dyes are prepared by condensing a cyanuric halide with 1 mole of an aminoazo compound of formula <FORM:0926039/IV(a)/3> and with 2 moles of a sulphonated phenol or naphthol. The dyes may be used to colour cellulose, wool, silk, polyamide and polyacrylonitrile and polyester fibres. The dyes are preferably used as reactive dyes for cellulose giving yellow shades in the presence of an acidbinding agent. The preparation of the dyes and their use in dyeing is described in examples.
