Abstract
926,023. Invalids' beds. J. BUNYAN. June 23, 1961 [June 29, 1960], No. 22798/60. Class 52 (2). A body supporting device for use by physically incapacitated persons comprises a folding seat arrangement including a back frame 6 pivotally mounted on a support 2 which is mounted on a bed frame 1, a seat supporting frame 9 pivoted at one end 8 intermediate the ends of the back frame 6 and struts 11 each pivoted at one of their ends to the free ends 10 of the seat frame and at their other ends to the support 2 at positions spaced from the back frame 6 a distance equal to the length of the seat frame 9 so that the seat frame may move upwardly away from the support 2 in parallel relation thereto from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that shown in Fig. 2 and vice versa, the raising and lowering of the back frame being effected by means of compression springs 18a or by power means such as an electric motor and the seat being retained in any desired position of adjustment by counterbalance weights or by a spring- urged pin 17 engaging in a ratchet 18. The seat is locked in the lowered position (Fig. 1) by a latch 2a engageable with a pin 2b. Flaps 13b are provided in the seat frame so that access may be had to the patient from beneath the seat for sanitary purposes.
