Abstract

An electrical component, e.g. a ceramic capacitor for use with a printed circuit, having a cylindrical body with a flat end and connecting wires which extend substantially parallel to one another beyond said flat end, one of the wires being fastened in a bore which opens out of the flat end, is provided with a coating of a protective lacquer by immersion with the flat end uppermost in a liquid bath of thixotropic lacquer to a depth such that the lacquer just closes over the surface of the flat end, partially withdrawing the component from said bath at a relatively high speed such that a blob of lacquer of substantially conical form is left on the flat end surrounding the connecting wire which is fastened in the bore, completing the withdrawal of the component from the bath at a reduced speed, and subsequently hardening the lacquer coating. In an example a ceramic capacitor is coated by immersion in a bath containing, by volume, 10% phenol-formaldehyde resin and 65% calcium carbonate in a toluene vehicle.
