[Also in Group XXIII] An appliance for massaging the teeth and gums comprises a hollow handle 1 carrying a rotating massage member 20 and means for supplying water and a treating fluid to the member. In the form shown, the member 20 is driven by a water turbine 8 through a shaft 9 and bevel gears 10, 11. At the same time, part of the water from the turbine casing passes to the space around the shaft 9, through apertures 17 in the surrounding sleeve, to a chamber 18, whence it passes through a duct 19 to the bevel housing and so through a central bore in the shaft 12 to the massage member 20. The outer wall of the chamber 18 is formed by a rubber sleeve 21 which thus separates it from a second chamber 22 into which medicament is introduced through a filler 23. With this arrangement the water pressure, in chamber 18, is communicated to the medicament chamber, the contents of which are consequently forced out through a second duct 24 to mix with the water stream flowing to the member 20. An adjustable cock, as 24a, may be fitted in each of the ducts 19, 24 to determine the relative proportions of water and medicament. In one modified form of the device the axis of the massage member is aligned with that of the turbine while in another, the medicament chamber is separate from and mounted above, the hand-piece, the liquid from it being withdrawn either by gravity or by an ejector action.
