Abstract

1,042,065. Gum massage. AQUA-TEC CORPORATION. June 7,1963, No. 22688/63. Heading A5R. Apparatus for cleaning and massaging the teeth and gums comprises means for providing a pulsating jet of water and means for adjusting the nature of the pulsations. An electric motor in a casing 28, controlled by a switch 25, drives a plunger pump associated with a pump housing 37. The latter encloses suitable valves to enable the pump to draw water through a tube 11 from a container 9 and eject it, as a violently pulsating flow, through a flexible tube 12 to a nozzle 13. The tube 12, although flexible, is non-elastic, so that the force of the pulsations is not lost. However, a by-pass from the pump chamber 37, comprising an adjustable needle valve 15, connects the pump to an elastic tube 16 leading to a restricted outlet back to the container 9. By this means the force of the pulsations can be absorbed, to a greater or less extent, as desired, in the walls of the tube 16. Preferably the device is arranged to give between 1000 and 1600 pulsations per minute, and the outlet orifice of the nozzle 13 has a diameter between 0. 032 and 0. 038 inch.
