Abstract

925,603. Electric correspondence control systems. VECTRON ELECTRO-PHYSICS Ltd. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 21, 1960], No. 43924/60. Class 40 (1). In order to compensate for irregularities in the movement of a magnetic tape past a transducer head, the tape 1 has cyclic wave signals 2, 3 of the same frequency recorded near each edge, the signals being picked up in the head 4 and fed to amplifiers 5, 6 and a phase discriminator 7, and the phase difference is used to rotate the head 4 about an axis 14 by a piezoelectric crystal transducer 8 to compensate for skew. The frequency of either signal is also compared at 15 with that from an oscillator 16 and used to move the head 4 axially by means of piezo-electric crystal 18, to compensate for wow and flutter.
