Abstract

Toilet paper and paper toilet seat covers are coated on one or both sides with a non-hygroscopic germicidal dust. Preferably, the dust contains a major proportion of inert material with which germicidal powder is mixed or on the particles of which it is coated. The composition may be dusted on to the paper or applied as a paste, slurry or suspension. Compositions given include, as germicides, mixtures of hexachlorophene with ortho phenyl-phenol or 2, 21 thio-bis 4, 6 dichlorophene and, as inert material, mixtures of talc with calcium silicate or Bentonite and Fuller's earth with calcium silicate. Other mixtures referred to include hexachlorophene and trichlorocarbanilide and talc and magnesium silicate. Perfume and a surface active agent may be added. Soft twin ply tissues may take up to 30% by weight of the dust but harder papers are stated to have an optional content of between 4 and 8%. Other germicides referred to are chloroxylenols, quaternary ammonium compounds, benzoic acid, salicylic acid, antibiotics and oxines. Other inert materials referred to are chalk, china clay, diatomaceous earth, wood flour and urea. Specification 716,198 is referred to.
