Abstract
In processes for preparing reinforced structures from acrylic polymer-in-monomer syrups or from syrups of unsaturated polyester resins in a copolymerizable monomer using a peroxidic polymerization initiator the reinforcing material has an accelerator for the polymerization disposed thereon. Peroxidic initiators specified are benzoyl, lauroyl, methyl ethyl ketone and hydroxyheptyl peroxides, di-t-butyl-diperphthalate and t-butyl hydroperoxide. Accelerators specified are diethyl-m-toluidine; N,N1-dimethyl-p-toluidine; octadecylisothiouronium bromide; tribenzylamine; beta-phenylethyldibutyl amine hydrochloride; beta-phenyldibutylbenzylamine; tribenzylamine hydrochloride; beta-phenylethyldibutylamine carbethoxyammonium; mercaptans; and copper naphthenate. In examples the reinforcing material is glass fibre mat and the syrup either 30% polymethylmethacrylate in monomeric methyl methacrylate containing 1,25% ethylene dimethacrylate and 35 p.p.m. hydroquinone or a commercial unsaturated polyester resin of unknown constitution in styrene.
