Abstract

1513427 Laminates E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 4 June 1975 [5 June 1974; 27 March 1975] 24154/75 Heading B5N [Also in Division C3] Two surfaces are bonded together either i) by applying to at least one of the surfaces a composition comprising of at least one polymer other than a polymer as defined in c) below, at least partially dissolved in b) at least one acrylic or methacrylic monomer which is defined as (meth) acrylic acid or (meth) acrylates, c) an organic sulphonyl chloride having up to 20 carbon atoms or a chlorosulphonated polymer, d) a free radical polymerisation catalyst, and e) an accelerator followed by bringing the surfaces sufficiently close together or ii) by applying to at least one of the surfaces a polymerization accelerator followed by the same composition as specified above except that component e) is absent and then bringing the surfaces sufficiently close together. Example 27 describes the bonding together of two sheets of steel with a composition comprising polychloroprene, methyl methacrylate, methacrylic acid, methane sulphonyl chloride, cumene hydroperoxide, bisphenol A epoxy resin and ethylene dimethamylate applied to one sheet and an accelerator applied to the other. Other substrates that may be bonded together are of aluminium, copper, brass, polyesters, pplyamides, polyvinyl chloride, glass, wood and paper.
