Abstract

924,924. Washing-machines. PHILCO CORPORATION. Aug. 5, 1959 [Aug. 5, 1958], No. 26724/59. Class 138 (2). A wobble-type agitator 26 has a column-like portion 33 flexibly secured thereto, the agitator 26 and column 33 executing distinct but cyclically related gyratory motions without relative rotation. In Fig. 2 the column 33 is freely rotatable on a bent shaft 34 which extends into and is rigid with a crank head 20 fixed to a drive-shaft 19. The agitator 26 is mounted on an angularlydisposed ball - bearing 24 carried by the crank head 20. Relative rotation between agitator 26 and column 33 is prevented but other relative motion is permitted by a gimbal device comprising a ring 46 pivotally connected to both the agitator and the column. The gimbal device eliminates torsional stresses in a flexible sealing boot 35 which interconnects the agitator and column. In a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) the gimbal device is replaced by a pin- and - slot type connection. Specifications 900,535 and 918,460 are referred to.
