Abstract

971,002. Washing machines. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Oct. 6, 1961 [Oct. 21, 1960], No. 36002/61. Heading D1A. Circulation of liquid in a washing machine is effected by deformation of a hollow agitator 5 formed of resilient material and connected to a source of pulsating pressure (38, 39). The agitator may be made of rubber and may comprise a number of vertical rigid sections 13 . . . 16 connected by readily deformable sections and provided with flexible resilient fins 21, 22, 23. The interior of the agitator is connected by a hollow shaft 26 and conduit 41 to a cylinder 39 whose piston 38 is reciprocated by a motor 33. The motor 33 may be reversed to spin dry the clothes through a one-way clutch 34. A rigid perforated frame 7 is mounted within the agitator 5.
