Abstract

A thermoplastic polymer composition includes a substantially non-thermosetting thermoplastic polymer or copolymer and a compatible proportion of at least 0,1 but less than 10% by weight of a polyester having a molecular weight from 1,000 to 2,500 and being solely constituted by the condensation product of one or more of ethylene and propylene glycols, polyethylene and polypropylene glycols and alcohols having at least three hydroxyl groups with at least one carboxylic acid having at least two carboxyl groups. The higher alcohols mentioned are glycerol, sorbitol, erythritol, pentaerythritol, quercitrol and inositol and polyacids mentioned are oxalic, malonic, maleic, succinic, glutaric, adipic, phthalic, tetralic, tetrahydrophthalic, chlorophthalic, o-phenylene diacetic, malic, tartaric, saccharic and citric. Thermoplastic polymers specified are rubber and polymers and copolymers of compounds containing the vinyl grouping, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol or acetate and polyolefines. In specific examples the polymers used are (1 and 2) a mixture of polyvinyl chloride and a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinyl acetate and (3 to 6) polyethylene. The mixture used in Examples 1 and 2 also contained 1% by weight of basic lead stearate. The use of the specified polyesters in the specified proportions is stated to improve the rheological properties of the polymers at temperatures above the softening point. The compositions may be used in the manufacture of microgroove record discs.
