[Also in Group XXVIII] A tube assembly 1 for controlling fluid flow comprises an inner tube 2 spaced from an outer tube 3 to define an annular duct 4, at least two separate passages establishing communication between the interior of the tube 2 and the duct, and a baffle constraining fluid flow to be changed over between the interior of the tube 2 and the duct without flow reversal. As shown changeover of fluid flow between the ducts 5 and 4 respectively is arranged by providing a section dividing the tube into two parts 6, 7, the part 6 being expanded to provide three equi-spaced passages 8 divergent from the duct 5 and terminating, at the position of joining of the ducts 5 of the parts 6, 7, in orifices of sector-like form in cross-section; part 7 is expanded to provide similar passages 9, and the orifices of both parts 6, 7 abut in such a manner that the interior of the passages 8 coincide with the spaces between the passages 9, a baffle 10 of streamline form being provided to obturate at the position of joining of the ducts 5 of the parts 6, 7. The outer walls of the passages 8, 9 seal with the tube 3. The device has particular application in coaxial tube loop assemblies for testing material specimens in nuclear reactors.
