Abstract
923,970. Removing fumes on generation. H. G. F. JENNINGS. Sept. 13, 1961 [June 17, 1960], No. 21474/60. Class 8(2). Fume extraction means for a wooden fume cupboard of the type including an operating chamber 1 formed with a gas outlet 15 comprise a duct 17 extending across substantially the whole width of the chamber with a plurality of horizontal inlet slots 23 vertically spaced. A condensation chamber 31, of rigid plastics or other inert material with a removable lid 37, has six spaced circular or elliptical apertures 41 to receive the necks of flasks 45, and a number of apertures 47 which are aligned with the slots 23 when the chamber 31 is hung from them on bent portions 49 of the chamber. The floors of the duct 17 and the chamber have drain outlets 61, 53 respectively. In use, an extraction fan maintains the interior of the cupboard at a pressure slightly less than that outside the cupboard to prevent gaseous fluids inside the chamber 1 from leaking out past a glass sash window 11 The atmosphere in the fume cupboard may be air or inert or reducing gas. In a modification of the condensation chamber, flask-receiving apertures are connected by slots.
