923,825. Switches held set and freed mechanically. F. H. JONES, and G. JONES. Nov. 23, 1960 [May 31, 1960], No. 19136/60. Class 38 (5). [Also in Group XXIV] An overload cut-out switch 24 actuated by axial movement of a worm 35 in an epicyclic change-speed gear for a winch or machine tool (Group XXIV) is of a three-pole type and comprises triangularly arranged contacts 37 on a moulded plastic base 25, and a plastic disc 23 which is externally splined for axial movement, carries insulating lugs 34 to separate the contacts 37, is urged to abut the worm 35 by a spring 28, and has a cylindrical extension 40 entering a gland 26. The extension 40 comprises two spring-loaded balls 29 engaging an annular groove 31 in the gland 26 to maintain the switch in its open state when operated. A mushroom head 27 is provided for resetting. The contacts 37 are silver tipped, close with a rolling cleaning action, and can be wedged apart by the lugs 34. The individual poles of the switch can be separated by anti-flash guards.
