Abstract

Fertilizers are obtained by making dusty bone or horn meal in the natural, not pretreated state, into a paste with small quantities of fresh slaughterhouse blood until a crumbly mass is formed, which is stacked in heaps and is subjected to anaerobic fermentation so as to dry out the mass at elevated temperature and produce a crumbly non-dusty product. Whole blood is preferably used in an amount of 5-25% based on the weight of the starting materials. Fermentation may be effected at a temperature up to 70 DEG C. until the mass is dry. Inorganic nitrogen and potassium salts such as potassium sulphate may also be added.
