Abstract

923,277. Ventilators. WARREN WEBSTER & CO. Inc. Dec. 29, 1960 [March 10, 1960], No. 44559/60. Class 137. Air-flow control apparatus comprises a damper 11 so pivoted at 12 that flow of air over the damper from the leading edge 11a to the pivot 12 produces a " lift " component of force that tends to swing the damper in an anti-clockwise direction as shown in Figs. 1 and 2. This force is substantially counterbalanced by a mechanical torque which varies according to the angle of tilt of the damper. As shown, the torque is produced by a counterweight 13 carried by an arm 13a rigid with the pivot 12. Spring arrangements may be used instead. The damper may be constructed to prevent it completely closing either by giving it a twist or providing a spacer on one edge. The limit stop member 14 can be rotated about the pivot 12 so that the damper can be adjusted within certain limits. The air flow apparatus is designed to produce a constant volume affresh into a unit air-conditioner, Fig. 5, which includes a heat transfer unit 30 embodying cooling and dehumidifying means and a filter 26.
