Abstract

A detergent bar comprises a mixture of at least three sodium primary alkyl sulphates containing 8-20 carbon atoms, at least 30% by weight of which contain 12-15 carbon atoms, and the proportions of the various alkyl sulphates being such that, with respect to at least 90 mol. per cent of the alkyl sulphates present, the mol. ratio of any one to any other present in a lesser or equal amount by weight is less than 3:1, water being present in an amount sufficient to render the alkyl sulphates cohesive, generally in an amount of 2-15% by weight. It is preferred that the various alkyl sulphates be present in approximately equimolecular proportions, and that they be derived from 1-olefins obtained by cracking petroleum wax. Up to 11% sodium sulphate may be present.
