Abstract

A herbicidal composition comprises as active ingredient a compound of the formula <FORM:0991288/A5-A6/1> where R and R1, which can be the same or different, are each an alkyl radical or not more than four carbon atoms or a carboxymethyl radical and X- is an anion, e.g. a halogen or methosulphate ion and a suitable diluent for the active ingredient, the active ingredient being present in the composition in a proportion of at least 10% by weight of the composition. The composition may include a wetting agent and a corrosion inhibitor. Specified active ingredients are 4 : 41-dipyridyl dimethosulphate, 4 : 41 - dipyridyl dimethochloride, 4 : 41 - dipyridyl dimethobromide, 4 : 41 - dipyridyl dimetho iodide and diethyliodide, di-n-butyl iodide 4 : 41 - dipyridyl di - n - butyl methyl sulphate.
