Abstract
922,393. Blow-moulding hollow articles. E. SHIPTON & CO. Ltd. July 30, 1959 [July 31, 1958], No. 24706/58. Class 87(2). A hollow article e.g. a ball is blow-moulded by extruding a tube of e.g. polythene between mould parts 10, 10a, closing the mould parts to seal the tube, blowing air into the tube through a needle 8 to force the tube against the mould, extruding further material around the needle, and then shutting off the air and raising the needle 8, by means of a piston 5, to allow the air in the article to force the further material over the hole and seal the article. In a modification, Fig. 2, the needle 24 may be positioned at the bottom of the mould and the further material is obtained by using the material pinched off by the bottom cutting edges of the mould, and the material is forced into the mould by a plunger 26.
