Abstract

921,285. Variable capacitors. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. Dec. 21, 1959 [Sept. 19, 1958], No. 30011/58. Class 37. The rotor and stator vanes 1, 5 of a rotary variable capacitor are each spaced by resilient tongues 4a, 4b and 8a, 8b, respectively, which are bent from the margins of apertures provided for clamping bolts 25, 19 for the rotor and stator vanes, respectively, nuts on the bolts adjustably compressing the rotor and stator and thus the said resilient tongues. In the embodiment shown, rotor vanes 1 having tongues 4a, 4b bent up in alternate directions are interleaved with vanes 10 where the tongues 4 are not bent up, the stator having alternate vanes 5, 5x, the tongues of the former vanes only being bent up. Alternatively the corresponding tongues of alternate vanes are deflected in opposite directions so that the tongues of adjacent vanes engage each other and the vanes are spaced by twice the amount of deflection of the individual tongues. Solid dielectric sheets, such as polythene, may be interleaved with the rotor and stator vanes. Alternatively, lugs at the edges of the vanes may be folded back to provide resilient spacing elements.
