Abstract

920,586. Dynamic vibration dampers. C. B. DE CARBON. Sept. 21, 1960, No. 32485/60. Class 108(3). A dynamic vibration damper utilizes the elasticity of a gas as a return means for an oscillatory mass m in a closed cylinder c having attachment bolts a and b. The mass m may have a seal E separating the bodies A and B of air or be a clearance fit, Fig. 4, in the cylinder and returned to its equilibrium position by light spring r. Damping is provided by laminar air flow in the clearance between mass and cylinder which is preferably between 0À15 and 0À30 mm. A small quantity of oil may be introduced to the cylinder to lubricate the mass or the surface of the mass or cylinder may be given an antifriction coating.
